The Super Collider -- scientists are saying that they are 'pretty sure' we are not creating matter sucking black holes that will destroy the Earth by firing up the Collider. The goal? Certainly not a good enough one to leave a chance---even if it's a very small one---to destroy the Earth. PR for the Collider (it has its own PR?) say that they are surprised that people are hysterical, considering their assurance that there is 'virtually no chance' the Earth will be destroyed. We would be happy if you said NO CHANCE. Virtually no chance means it could still happen---and it doesn't seem to make much sense to risk our existence in order to know more about our existence.
