CALLER: Hey, Glenn, how are you?
GLENN: Very good.
CALLER: It's an honor to talk to you.
GLENN: Thank you, sir. You went to high school with Stephen King?
CALLER: I did. Stephen King and I went to the same high school. He graduated one year ahead of me. We got the same English teacher, in fact, and he can read and I can't, I guess.
GLENN: Wait a minute. You are not saying that you are a member of the military.
CALLER: 30 years in the Air Force, Air Force reserves.
GLENN: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hang on.
VOICE: Are you ready to play, Can a Soldier Read.
GLENN: So Stephen King, you went to high school with Stephen King, he's a year older than you?
CALLER: Yes, sir, he graduated 1966, Lisbon high school.
GLENN: And you claim to have had the same teachers?
CALLER: Well, that's what I'm told. I seem to remember that but I don't know how to read too good.
GLENN: Right, okay. So go ahead and tell us, show us you can read.
CALLER: Okay. I'm going to read you Proverbs 16:13. Kings take pleasure in honest lips. They value a man who speaks the truth.
GLENN: Could you read that again?
CALLER: Kings take pleasure in honest lips. They value a man who speaks the truth.
GLENN: Okay. This, I'm just guessing, okay? I'm not a Bible thumper, you know, that's hanging onto my God and my guns.
CALLER: Right, right, right.
GLENN: But would you say it's safe to say that that line was not talking about the Stephen King family but other kings?
CALLER: I think you are right on with that, Glenn. Yeah, right, yeah.
GLENN: Dennis, hang on just a second. Hang on just a second. We're going to get you a copy of the Christmas Sweater.
CALLER: Been a pleasure, Glenn, thanks.
VOICE: Thanks for playing Can the Soldier Read.
GLENN: By the way, I don't -- I mean, I'm giving all these Christmas Sweaters away to the soldiers today but I just want you to know that it's not -- yeah, I don't expect them to read it. I mean, this is all -- look, this is show biz. We've set all this up. These guys can't actually read. But I'm sending it to them because I don't know what it's like at your house but at my house, whenever I put the Christmas tree up -- does this happen at your house? You put the Christmas tree up and it's always wobbly and so I always need a book about the size of the Christmas Sweater to put and wedge underneath that one -- you know what I'm saying? And so I'm just -- it's -- look, it's just another -- nobody in this audience reads. It's just another obvious benefit and maybe the only benefit of the Christmas Sweater. It will just prop up the tree. I'm just saying. You know, maybe you've got -- maybe you've got relatives coming over and you've got to set up that card table. You know how it's always wobbly? Maybe this one's, maybe the book is a little too big but just take some of the pages out, you know, just rip some of them out and then just put it there underneath the leg of that wobbly table. It's fantastic.
